Our Values
Inspired by the ministry of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan our values are:
Compassion | We provide practical and emotional support and offer therapeutic programs to victim-survivors to assist their recovery from trauma they may have experienced due to family violence and homelessness. |
Community | We recognise the community context in which our work takes place. We collaborate through partnerships with victim-survivors, community organisations and government. We recognise and encourage the communities of support victim-survivors establish with one another through their shared experiences. |
Hope | We meet victim-survivors with hope and the belief that change is possible. |
Hospitality | We welcome all women, children and young people, including trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming/gender diverse people as guests. |
Inclusivity | We are committed to providing an inclusive service to all and identify our support to the following communities:
|
Respect | We respect and honour each person’s lived experiences, choices, and diversity. We work collaboratively and professionally. |
Statement of Apology from Good Samaritan Inn
To all First Nations People, your families and communities. We, non-Indigenous people of this land, apologise for the human suffering and injustice that you have experienced as a result of colonisation and generations of discrimination and marginalisation that has resulted from that. We share with you our feelings of shame and horror at the actions and atrocities that were perpetrated against your people. We acknowledge that the removal of children devasted individuals, families and entire communities and that the intention of those polices was to assimilate Indigenous children. We recognise this as a policy of genocide. We recognise you as a sovereign people who have never given up your sovereignty of this land. We collectively share a sense of outrage and feel a particular sense of responsibility around these racist policies of the past. We acknowledge your human right to self-determination. We commit to working in solidarity with you in ways that you choose and determine. We work with women, young people and children affected by family violence and homelessness. We understand the long-term damage to communities of disadvantage, prejudice, poverty, violence, marginalisation, trauma and social circumstances out of their control. We recognise your leadership, we honour your visions and we join with you in your hopes for your future and for our futures together.
